Funding criteria
Below you will find all of the information you will need to understand whether your project or organisation is eligible for funding from the E.ON Sustainable Energy Fund and to complete your application:
Who can apply?
Local community groups and not for profit organisations located in England, Scotland and Wales.
Joint proposals (e.g. with local authorities) will be considered, although the community organisation must lead the application.
We can support applications from religious or political organisations if the community building that the technology or measures are to be installed into is available for the whole community to use regardless of religious or political beliefs. Benefits to the whole community must be clearly demonstrated in your application.
Project Eligibility
- Your organisation must benefit at least one of the following groups
- Education
- Vulnerable people
- People in fuel poverty - Projects must result in the creation of renewable energy and/or a reduction in the amount of energy used
- Projects must demonstrate a clearly demonstrated positive impact on the local community
- Projects must demonstrate a measurable positive impact on the environment. This will most likely to be demonstrated through by stating carbon savings
- Funding must be used for the purchase and implementation of capital equipment, physical measures and associated direct costs only
- Funding will not be granted solely for promotions, education or general awareness raising. However this may be considered where it forms part of a wider project which meets points 2 and 5, and relates to the technology or measures that will be installed
- Funding cannot be granted for feasibility studies
- Project proposals must show that they can be completed within reasonable time scales and costs, and all projects must complete within 12 months of the grant being awarded
- E.ON must be the sole corporate sponsors of the project. However applications from projects supported by joint funding from matching public sector funding are accepted
- Projects must have consent, or support from, the local community, and where relevant their local authority, in their planning and application
- Projects must be sustainable beyond support from the Fund. Please provide evidence of this within your application
- You can not apply for more than £20,000
- The maximum grant we will award is 90% of the total cost of the measures applied for. Please refer to the Guidance notes
- You can not apply for funding if work has already begun on your project
- Funding can only be sought for non-residential facilities.

Fund Administration
Applications for funding will be assessed at least twice a year by the E.ON Sustainable Energy Fund committee. Closing dates for applications are detailed in the FAQ section.
All applicants will be informed of the committee's decision in e-mail.
The committee's decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful projects.
Successful Projects
Applicants that are successful will be informed by e-mail and will need to confirm acceptance of their grant.
80% of the total grant amount will be issued at the start of the project with the remaining 20% made available upon completion. E.ON will issue Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) charity cheques.
E.ON's press team will contact successful projects to support communication with local media.
E.ON's energy efficiency and micro-generation teams may also contact grant recipients to discuss technology, installation and results.
Successful recipients should also provide to E.ON a project status review report every 6 months of receiving the grant with photographs and any media coverage.
Other than the grant, there will be no additional support available from E.ON to facilitate the delivery of the project.
E.ON must be the only corporate sponsor of the project.
