Ensure reliable energy

Performance

04CEspare

In 2009, we generated 33 TWh of electricity.

  • That's 18% less energy than in 2008 (the recession is partly responsible).

We've invested £867 million in generation and distribution assets contributing to ensure reliable supply for the UK.

  • We're building one of the world's largest Combined Heat and Power (CHP) gas-fired power stations on the Isle of Grain.
  • We've formed a partnership with RWE to build two new nuclear power stations by 2025. The 6GW of capacity is roughly enough to power a city the size of Greater London.
  • We're also investing in London Array and Robin Rigg wind farms and in our distribution network.

We continued to improve our network performance and reduced our customer minute lost from 143.1 in 2008 to 132.4 in 2009.
