More than hot air
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) stations really are one of the most efficient sources of energy around. And when it comes to large scale CHP generation, we're the market leaders.
Based on the sites where their energy is used, our CHP stations are highly efficient. Smaller than most other plants, their working environments are closer too. So you won't just know what's going on, you'll enjoy early responsibility and commercial exposure. Naturally, you'll be as committed as we are to seeing our plants operate safely, and we'll support you in achieving the relevant qualifications. As for the rest of your training, whether you choose an operational, production or engineering role, you'll have your own Personal Development Plan. It'll help you progress more quickly, gaining the skills to further your career within CHP and the rest of the business.

Our recruitment process is designed to ensure both that you are right for the role and that the role is right for you. So there are no trick questions and no attempts to catch you out. It's purely a chance for you to show us what you can do, while getting a better feel for what's involved. When you're ready to apply, simply send us your CV and complete our online application form. After that, the process is simple.
- Firstly, we'll email you to confirm we've received your application. (If you don't receive this acknowledgement, please phone us on 02476 190370).
- You'll receive a second email after we've reviewed your application. If we think you could be right for the job, we'll invite you to interview but either way, we'll let you know.
- If successful, one of our hiring managers, and sometimes someone from HR, will interview you. You'll need to bring your passport or birth certificate and also your National Insurance number as this is now UK immigration policy. We'll be in touch before the interview to give you the full details, including anything else you may need to bring or prepare and who you'll be meeting on the day.
- For some roles you may need to complete verbal reasoning tests, numerical tests or personality questionnaires. You'll either be sent an email from SHL, our testing provider, with a link to these, or you'll complete them here at interview. If you'd like to practise similar tests at home to help you prepare, you can try a example one here:

- For some roles, testing forms part of our assessment centres, where you might also be asked to take part in group exercises or prepare a presentation. Of course, we'll let you know well in advance if we're planning to run assessment centres or further exercises.
- We may invite you to a second interview. If this is part of the process your recruiting manager will let you know in advance.
- We'll call you and let you know if we're offering you the job. Again, we'll be in touch either way and we're always happy to provide feedback to explain our decision and to give you some advice for the future.
- If successful, hopefully you'll be pleased with our offer. Let us know you'd like to accept it and we'll send out your contract.
Throughout the process, you can contact us for updates on your application. If you have any special requirements or would like us to make any special arrangements, please let us know in advance so we can make sure we have made the best preparations for you. Dr. Rachel Pisani - Citigen Site Manager
Hello, my name is Rachel Pisani and I'm the site manager of Citigen CHP (Combined Heat and Power) located in the centre of London. I'm responsible for making sure that it runs safely. I'm also responsible for making sure that it's available and it's reliable, that the plant is maintained. I'm also responsible for all the people that work here.
I chose E.ON because not only did it have an excellent graduate scheme but the technical challenge of generating electricity was one that I found very, very interesting. And with the different power stations that we have, diverse technology, there was an opportunity really to work on different technologies and power plants. E.ON is one of the largest investor owned power and gas companies in the world. In terms of our engineering expertise we are already ahead of the game.
The best bit about my job is every day is different. I can come in and plan what my day is going to be, and that might go out the window as soon as I step in the door. There's always something new for me to learn, there's always a new challenge, and it's just really, really diverse. I get to use my technical skills, my commercial skills. I work with some great people.
Here at Citigen, we're quite a small team. There's about 20 of us here, made up of E.ON staff and contractors, that are part of the team. We're like a close family really. We all get on well and it's a good close working relationship. It's a great environment for a friendly female engineer or plant manager, and if I tell them that I actually manage a power station, people are really often surprised. They just don't think that it's something us women can do. That's also good to shout about as well!
On the whole everybody seems very, very passionate about what they do, and they are very, very talented at what they do. And, at the end of the day we're all in it together I suppose, and are making E.ON what it is. E.ON is very, very supportive and so in terms of training and development and support to progress your career, however you want to do it, it's there.
