Open Minds

And doors. Let's start with yours. Before selling our products and services, you need to believe in them. That means knowing they help people save energy and money.

Sales is never easy. It takes experience and determination to reach new customers - even with products as strong as ours. So a consultative approach works best. Receiving excellent training in our dedicated Sales Academy, you'll have the right information to fully explain the benefits our products have to offer - showing customers just how much money and energy they could save. And with facts like these, you'll find those tough sales targets easier to hit.

Our benefits package is one of the best in the industry too and with uncapped commission it's all yours to achieve. So succeed and as well as taking home your basic salary, you'll have your own company car, a generous mobile phone and broadband allowance, and through realistic commission targets can earn £29,972 OTE (uncapped).

Managing your own workload, tenacity and self motivation are essential to closing sales. Prove you have the skills, and with our great team and great products behind you, you'll have a great future in front of you too.

Opportunities available nationwide.

 Search and Apply

Our recruitment process is designed to ensure both that you are right for the role and that the role is right for you. So there are no trick questions and no attempts to catch you out. It's purely a chance for you to show us what you can do, while getting a better feel for what's involved.

Initial application

For our field sales roles you can apply online or by calling 0800 068 5274.

When you apply, you'll be asked a few very basic things about yourself - for example, whether or not you're eligible to work in the UK. You'll also be asked a series of questions, designed to find out more about your sales experience.

Telephone interview

If you make it through our initial screening, the next stage involves a short telephone interview. We'll ask you a few simple questions about why you applied for the role and how you feel about field sales. We can call at a time that's convenient for you.

Recruitment event

Perform well in your telephone interview and we'll invite you along to one of our selection days. Here, you'll take part in two differentactivities. How you perform as a whole will determine the overall outcome - so don't worry if you don't feel confident in one activity, as you should be able to make up for it elsewhere. During the recruitment event, we'll ask you to take part in the following exercises:

Role play

This isn't as scary as it sounds. You won't be doing it in front of other candidates, and we certainly won't be testing your acting skills. It's simply a chance for us to see how you behave in certain situations. One of us will pretend to be a prospect customer and you'll try to persuade us to become an E.ON customer. Your consultative approach will help meet the needs of the customer and find the best product for them, as though you were doing the role of a Home Energy Consultant.

Interview

This is our chance to find out whether this is the right role for you. We'll ask you to tell us about relevant situations you've been in, and how you handled them. It's important to tell your interviewer what you actually did, rather than what you think you should have done. And your examples should be about you, not other people. Work-based examples are preferred. But if none come to mind, it is OK to use examples from outside work too.

By attending one of our recruitment events, you'll be able to see what it's really like to work for us. If you like it and we like you, we'll offer you a job right there on the day.

Job Shadowing Day

If you are offered the job, but don't already have significant industry experience we'll organise for you to spend a working day with one of our Home Energy Consultants. This is designed to give you a real life insight in to the role and make sure it's the right choice for you. After completing this day, we'll then book you in to one of our induction courses.

Nikki - Home Energy Consultant (Field Sales)

Hi. My name's Nikki and I work for E.ON. I'm a Home Energy Consultant. I work mainly predominantly around the Chaddesden area, I do have other territories as well - it could be anywhere around the East Midlands.

What influenced me to apply for this position was the freedom of the role, the package that E.ON provided, the ability to be able to earn a good commission and the prospects of meeting different people - because I love people.

People would describe me as very outgoing, very bubbly, energetic, lively and very kind and considerate. I get my energy from eating well, I go to the gym - you know, I try to look after myself. I usually have my break about three o'clock, purely because that is the time when mothers go out to pick up their kids, so it is a time when I don't really get many people in. I go back out about half four/five and then obviously I catch a lot more people in - people coming back from work et cetera and then predominantly most of my sales are between four and eight. So, it's a good time to knock.

The best thing about my role would be the freedom, the support I get, the freedom of the role in being able to work and manage myself, but with the ability to have my manager there when I need my manager. You know, the training that E.ON gives as well and it's just the commission that I can earn as well.

The worst bit is the weather. We don't have very good weather in this country, obviously as you know - we get a few weeks of sunshine, maybe a few days but a lot of the time we get a lot of rain and it can get cold, but you have to do your job in all weathers. I've got three raincoats, so you know - one's a light one, one's a thick one to keep me warm so you know, you just get used to the role. You just get used to it.

When I tell people I work for E.ON I get a mixed response. A lot of it is “I couldn't do that job”. You do get a lot of rejection in this job, but you know you do get used to it and you know how to I'd say - tolerate it, accept it. There are certain people that you can help and there's certain people you can't help. You know, but at the end of the day we all have gas and electric, we all need this energy, and as a company E.ON is a good company. Customer service is really good, the actual products are good. We have reasonable prices throughout. There have been a few times where I've not managed to save money, but then it just always depends on the usage. But as a whole, in the two years I've done this role it has been very good. As a company it's a good company, a big company and I feel safe.

If you are thinking about applying for this role, you know - just bear in mind that it's something that you need to be able to do in all weathers and you need to be able to have a can do attitude and be very positive. The more you do it, the better you get!

OK well I think I better go now. I need to go and get some more sales. So if you are thinking about applying, take in to account what I've said. Alright, thank you!
