A whirlwind start. "I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and I joined the graduate scheme in 2006. I've just completed that programme and started a permanent role in Development and Construction. During the graduate programme, I spend most of my time at power stations, and I did a long stint at the coal fired power station in Ratcliffe. I've already done a lot of travelling and there's still so much more to see. E.ON is a diverse business, so I've always felt like I can progress my career as I want to.

Diversity. Something that doesn't just happen. "E.ON wants to encourage women engineers. Right now, there aren't a huge number of women in Mechanical Engineering. But I think the number is definitely growing. There were more in university than I've found in the workplace. Here, I've been given exactly the same opportunities as everyone else. And I can honestly say my experience has been nothing but positive.

Support that makes a difference. "The mentoring has been excellent. They've really helped plan our career development and made sure we get the experience we're after. They do a lot to ensure we get chartered through the right professional body, in my case, IMECE. On a more personal level, you get to know your mentor and that relationship can supply you with the tips and guidance you need to push yourself forward and progress through the early part of your career.

Looking foward to a bright future. "At the moment, I'm focusing on developing strong technical experience. But, later I might like to step out of engineering a bit and start thinking about strategy or other parts of the business where I can develop my skills. There's so much choice, I feel like I can grow alongside the business."
