Emergency Services

The emergency services are often called to attend incidents involving the electricity network, perhaps where a car has hit a pole supporting a power line, or where a substation has been vandalised. In these cases it is vitally important that emergency services personnel are aware of the additional dangers posed by the presence of high voltage electricity.

Make sure you:

  • Keep a safe distance, at least 5 metres, from any live or damaged switchgear, equipment, underground cable or overhead power line conductor.
  • Don’t touch any electrical equipment even though it may appear to be off and safe.
  • Keep others, such as members of the public or other emergency services personnel who arrive on site after you, away from the danger area.
  • Ask your Control Room to contact Central Networks on their dedicated emergency contact number.
  • Follow instructions and guidance given by Central Networks’ employees on measures to ensure your safety.
