22 April 2009
We've obtained permission to install a met mast to measure wind speeds.
5 March 2009
We've submitted an application for planning permission to install an anemometry mast to measure wind speeds. This is currently being considered by the planning authority; the application reference is S09/0239. We've also submitted a scoping report to South Kesteven District Council which can be downloaded from the Council's website. The application reference is S09/0351.
Why Billingborough Fen?
Billingborough Fen was chosen as a wind farm development as the site has a good wind resource. Initial studies have found that there are no statutory designations such as National Parks, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, etc within the wind farm boundary that would prohibit development.
Site location
The location of the site is shown on the map below.
Early days
At this early stage of the project our goal is to serve the community's best interests and to that end we are employing independent specialist consultants to investigate the impact that the wind farm would have and on that basis reach an optimised design which addresses all relevant issues.
The Environmental Impact Assessment typically takes between 18 to 24 months as it involves significant amounts of studies. The issues considered in such an assessment would normally include:
- Scoping
- Heritage survey
- Landscape and Visual Impact
- Cumulative Impact
- Noise
- Flicker
- Access and transport
- Ecology
- Ornithology
- Aviation
- Telecoms
- Ground conditions
- Layout design
Community engagement
Once the studies are complete or are near to completion a public exhibition is planned later in 2009 to introduce the proposal to the local community and provide them with the opportunity to ask us any questions they may have about the proposed development.
